March BJP Loom Cuff: Eye of Horus

The Bead Journal Project (BJP) is a way to journal an important aspect in your life through the use of beads and other materials. We were encouraged to not be frivolous but really give this project some thought and create a meaningful theme.

My inspiration comes from my spirituality. I am always encouraged to give this aspect of my life more focus and I work on this daily. Another aspect of my spirituality is my ministry and so I thought that this would be a great way to remind myself of why I dedicated myself to my God, Jehovah and also introduce some who may not yet know much about the Bible, to some of the great hopes and lessons that are stored in this still relevant book.

One of my favorite accounts in the Bible is the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt.  After years of oppressive enslavement, Jehovah freed the Israelites in a most extraordinary way. If you have not had a chance to read this riveting account you can read the complete account here.

My March piece serves more as a reminder for me because one aspect of the account in Exodus is that Pharaoh's heart continued to be obstinate and Pharaoh would not acknowledge God as the one and only God. Instead Pharaoh put his faith in his gods and while I won't ruin the ending for those who have not read the account, let me say that things turned out less than favorable for Pharaoh.

The Eye of Horus

While I did research the Eye of Horus so that I could understand what this symbol represented for the Egyptians, I will not explain it in this post because this piece is not about what the Egyptians thought about this false deity.

Again, this piece is a reminder; it reminds me of Jehovah's love, mercy, patience, and power. It also reminds me to not place my faith in men or other seemingly powerful forces, but to remain faithful to the one God that has proven that He has the power to save, rescue and protect those that draw close to Him. Lastly, I am reminded to not place my faith in riches because even though Egypt was filled with so many earthly treasures, when it was all said and done, these treasures did nothing to save them from the calamity.

When I look at this piece I am instantly reminded of the turbulent and wonderful account of Moses and the Israelites. I think of how Jehovah "heard their groaning" and came to their rescue. I am reminded of all the miracles that took place and how mind blowing that must have been for those that were there to witness it first hand.  Mostly, I am reminded to stay focused on my spiritual journey!

Please note that my post is not meant to be demeaning in any way. I am expressing my beliefs and regardless of how my personal beliefs may make others feel, I have reasoned that I have enough proof from the Bible to have faith in what is written within it. I respect that some may not believe the same things as I do and that is fine, but I am expecting that same respect to be shown on this public forum.
